Naturopathic medicine is a distinct health care profession emphasizing prevention and treatment of disease through the use of natural therapies and lifestyle practices that encourage individuals’ inherent self-healing process. The practice of naturopathic medicine includes modern and traditional, evidence based, and empirical methods. A licensed naturopathic doctor (ND) is able to diagnose and treat medical conditions and provide primary care.

Naturopathic medicine combines traditional healing methods (diet/lifestyle practices, herbal medicine, vitamin/mineral/nutrient therapy, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, physical medicine) with the rigors of modern science. By using protocols/treatments that minimize the risk of harm while supporting normal physiologic processes, naturopathic doctors help facilitate the body’s inherent ability to restore and maintain optimal health. Although NDs are trained in pharmacology and may prescribe pharmaceutical drugs, the use of natural medicines are prioritized.
